Thrifted Valentine's Day Outfit Inspiration
No matter how thrifty I become, I'm continually tempted by all the cute holiday clothing and accessories that come across my screen. I'm especially lured in by Valentine's Day clothing. I love all the hearts and the pink + red color combo. While I'm not completely against buying a new fun accessory or clothing item here and there (especially the ones I know I'll use for years to come), I do try to shop my closet and the thrift store as much as possible!

While most of the items I'm sharing in this post are thrifted and from my own closet, one thing I wanted to encourage you to do (and something that I'm leaning into more myself), is to borrow if can if you need to and/or can. This is especially helpful and beneficial for those specialty items you might not get a lot of use out of. Thankfully, I have a very stylish and thrifty friend who was willing to let me come shop her closet and borrow a few things to help create this inspiring outfits for you!
I think some people have maybe forgotten about PINTEREST, but I still love it for so many things...especially outfit inspiration! For each of the Valentine's Day looks I'm sharing today, I also have a photo I pulled from Pinterest that I tried to build from. None of them is exactly the same, but they all have the vibes that I enjoyed from the original look. This is also a great exercise to help show you where you might have holes in your closet that you can start looking for at the thrift store! I definitely have a few wish-list pieces now that I'll be on the lookout for.

I don't currently have a red blazer like the inspo photo, but I did score this vintage men's sweater last Fall that I love. It's missing a button...so don't pay attention to that...I need to find a similar one to sew on. I found this striped shirt at the GOODWILL OUTLET last Spring and have found it to be such a great addition to my wardrobe! The light pink jeans are delightfully stretchy and just the right shade to be able to work with lots of different colors. Since I didn't have the bright red tennies, I added a pair of patent red ballet flats.

Both the sweater and pants I'm wearing here are borrowed from my very stylish and thrifty friend, Kellee. She's a whole lot taller than I am and commented that while I was hiking these pants up to my bra...she's usually pulling them down to be long enough. Yet...they work for both of us! I do not own a pair of camel colored trousers, so that's why I went with the flowy red pants here instead. And since I had red pants on...I didn't want to wear red shoes, so I went with gold. Lastly...the sweater from the inspo photo was kind of graphic, so I added this Queen of Hearts tee I thrifted from the GOODWILL OUTFIT last week. While the pieces themselves vary a bit from the inspiration photo...I think the vibe is just as fun!

My friend Kellee literally took off the pants she was wearing so I could create this look at her house. I'm obsessed with the gingham pants she let me borrow (not pictured: the heart patch on the bum). The pants are her daughter's, though, so I didn't want to bring them home with me. Instead...I hit up the thrift store and found these cuties. They need a good iron and a little hem job to fix the cutoff look the previous owner created...but they work for the look I wanted. As I mentioned above, I do have red tennies, but I thought this was a great opportunity to add a little bedazzle to this otherwise casual outfit with my sequin Gucci mules. I purchased these secondhand a few years ago from a local high-end consignment store. I love adding higher-end items to my wardrobe to mix in with my thrift store items...helping to create some extra magic and help keep things from looking too dowdy or "used". I am just a girl, afterall...

Okay, this outfit is proof that you can recycle the same old items from your closet and give them a new look with the addition of just one piece! You've seen the sweater, shirt, and shoes from this outfit in the looks above. I added the pink flowy skirt (thanks again, Kellee!) and the whole look changed! I will never not love the combo of red and pink and this outfit nails it. Add in the stripes...you have magic.

This right here is THE LOOK! When else can you rock a heart skirt better than for VALENTINE'S DAY?? Again, my friend Kellee came in clutch with this skirt...and she even let me take it home to borrow! I'm not sure I could be as generous with something so cute! I will definitely be on the lookout for something similar...especially since I thrifted this puffy sweater a couple of weeks ago. It just begs for a similar skirt to be paired with. I added some white tennies (you can't see, but they have a gold accent on the heel). I love the look of a dressy outfit with some fun tennies. I'm not a heels girl...stay true to who you are!
