Here we are on December 16th of 2025 and I am just now sitting down to blog a Christmas Home Tour from 2024. I took the pictures right after CHRISTMAS last year and then promptly tore all the decorations down and didn't want to think about the holidays again. That's just how it goes...we ssget all excited and then just can't wait for it to all go away on December 26th. I thought all year that I would take the time to write this post, but just didn't get around to it. So, here we are, almost a full year later... I hope you'll excuse my tardiness on sharing and be able to tuck away a few ideas. Maybe if not for this year, but next.
We have an open concept home, which makes it hard to decorate sometimes. I lack wall space and furniture display space...so I have to spread things everywhere. I'm a big collector, afterall! I don't let that get me down, though, since I'm more than happy to deck all the halls...including the laundry room and bathrooms!
I'm probably just going to bounce around the house with this tour. I have over 40 pictures to share and it overwhelms me to try and come up with a rhyme or reason for how to share! The main goal with this post is really to let you see all the pretty still photos (social media favors movement and that's hard to really study), so I'm not going to be overly wordy. I plan to just call out certain special things here and there for you to see or know more about.
My only "ick" when sharing our bedroom from last year is this comforter. I got it on FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE and it really just missed the mark. First of all, the gal sold it as a king size, but I really believe it was only a queen. Secondly, the color wasn't quite what I was thinking. Thirdly...it felt terrible! Our pets didn't even want to walk on it...which was so strange! So, I resold it and let someone else enjoy it.
Our dining nook has the best light in the house, so I naturally want to display all the good stuff there. Our dining table is also such a great landing spot for decor. We pretty much never eat there, so it's not a big deal for us on a daily basis to have the table covered with vintage goodies. We do usually host, though, so that makes it a little trickier. I normally just have to take a few minutes clearing the decks, moving everything to our laundry room. Very carefully, of course...don't want to hurt any of these precious babies!
I think I started collecting VINTAGE SANTA MUGS in 2018 or 2019...and things have escalated quickly (I have even more than this now). I had someone leave a really mean comment on one of my Instagram posts about things just going to my house "to die", instead of being used. She wasn't talking about these mugs, but about something else that I collect. What she doesn't realize (or didn't choose to) is that I love every single piece that is in my house. If I don't love it, I'm actively working on finding it a new home. I like to display everything that I have, if possible, because if it goes into storage, it's out of sight out of mind. I would rather feel a little pressure of clutter than to not be able to see all my treasures.
One of my favorite things we've added to our home are floating shelves. These corner shelves in our kitchen/dining area helped to fill in an awkward empty spot and gave me so much space to display my vintage goodies! I leave it the same most of the time and just tuck CHRISTMAS in among the treasures. I have definitely been feeling the need to make some changes recently. Maybe in the new year!
This was the first year for us to have an artificial tree. I really had to work on Jason for that, but it just makes so much more sense for us for a couple of reasons. First, I decorate pretty early for Christmas. I was always having to wait until after Thanksgiving to put up our tree and decorate it. Also, I have a lot of vintage SHINY BRITES and, while we've been too scared to put them on our tree with our giant and wild kitten, Howard, eventually we will want to again. A real tree isn't strong enough to really support the weight of all that. While they're beautiful, they're not really meant to be decorated within an inch of their lives.
I don't do a lot of Christmas decorating in our kitchen...or maybe you think I do. Everyone has a different interpretation of what's a lot in the kitchen. Taking the doors off our cupboards in 2020 helped add so much interest to the space! My everyday items are festive, so for Christmas, I just tuck in a little extra bit here and there. BOTTLE BRUSH TREES are the perfect little "jewels" to add a little cheer without taking up too much space!
It's funny when I think back to our old house, I used to think it was so small, but really, the living space itself was very similar to this house. Our current house just has an enormous basement to add to its square footage. Even as "big" as our house is now, the living room is oh so cozy. I just embrace it, though, and know that the Christmas decorations will only be up for a short period of time and we can go back to some breathing room. Until then, though, everyone just has to be careful where they walk.
Want more inspiration??
I've loved "old things" and vintage for as long as I can remember. I would go through my grandparents' stuff any chance that I could. When my grandma passed away and I inherited a lot of the family things, I realized that so many of the pieces I looked at as a child were now in my possession. I'm doing my best to get them out and love them...instead of keeping them packed away.
When you have a lot of collections, it's hard to find room for all of them! Most years, I clear a lot of surfaces so I can make the most of my treasures. I definitely did that in 2024, considering a lot of decor normally lives in places you see Christmas decorations in this picture. I've let my storage areas get a little out of hand this last year, so the 2025 decorations will not look like this. Moving forward, my goal is to have a space I can put everyday decor in order to make room for CHRISTMAS. It's all about balance, though, so some years might just look a little lighter than others.
Whew! That is a lot of information and pictures to take in!! I have really enjoyed looking back on this iteration of Christmas, even though my house in currently decorated for 2025 Christmas. I hope that you've found some inspiration, whether it's for something new to look for at the thrift store, ESTATE SALES, or garage sales...or maybe just a fresh way to display decorations you already have!
