Being the homebody that I am, I always appreciate when other people go to stores and do the try-ons...so I don't have to. I decided that I need to be better about helping you out, though, so I'm going to do my best to start doing them for you instead! While I do thrift the majority of my clothing (yay, secondhand shopping), there are certain staples or trendier pieces that I seek out each year (I won't even say each season...because that's not true) to fill out my wardrobe...or help spice it up a little. While there are a few different big box retailers that I tend to shop, including ANTHROPOLOGIE, TARGET, and OLD NAVY, for several years now...WALMART has honestly been my primary go-to.
They started upping their fashion and home decor games a few years ago and haven't stopped. While I'm sure people have a lot to say on the topic of quality, I have had no issue with items not lasting or feeling like they are of lesser-quality. In fact, I'm going on probably year 4 or 5 of some of the pieces I've bought from WALMART. I know some people look at clothing from a place like that and think they'll be happy if they last for the season, but I've found that they last me year to year...to the point that I'm not even buying new things because the old are still good. Not a bad thing!
I'm sharing 11 looks with you today, but trust me when I say, there are so many more that I wanted to or could have. I just didn't want to overwhelm myself in the dressing room or you while reading this post. I am always sharing over in my WALMART STOREFRONT, though, if you want to follow along and keep the inspiration going! I share mostly fashion and home decor...but you just never know what you'll find over there...especially since we're coming up on the holiday season...I'm sure there will be some gift guides happening too.
For reference...I'm 5' and weigh about 147...definitely considered mid-size. I normally wear 10/12 on the bottom and medium/large on top. I'll try to call out on each look whether the item is true to size or if I would size up or down. Walmart seems to be very good about dressing every woman...offering lots of extended sizes, as well as conventional. Hope that helps! Also...just a word of warning or clarification...a lot of times items will show out of stock on my storefront, but make sure you still click on them...it usually just means that one size of one color is sold out...not the item entirely.
THIS cropped half-zip is super cute! I tried it in a large, but would size up for a little more comfort and length. I would also probably wear it with jeans, personally, but it was super cute with the leggings too! (LEGGINGS are my own.) THIS is the little layering tee I have on underneath. It comes in several colors and patterns. I was wearing a large, but would size up for a roomier fit.
THIS puffer jacket is so cute and stylish...especially for the price! Definitely one to grab if you need a new coat or just something to round out your selection. I have a longer coat and am debating adding this for something shorter. (I'm in a size large.)
I am actually stunned with the quality of THIS mid-length trench. Normally, trench coats feel like they overwhelm my petite frame, but this one just feels so good on. It's another one I'm considering adding. I feel like I could wear this over anything and feel put together. Plus...the price is amazing! (I'm in a size large.)
I have a very similar top to THIS oversized denim boyfriend style shirt (in fact...I wore it on the day of this try-on) and always get asked about it. It's older from Gap and I thrifted it. I've linked others in the past, but this one is the most similar I've found. It's actually a little longer than mine, so better with leggings! Also, it comes in extended sizes! (I'm in a size medium.)
Every year, I tell myself I'm going to add a pair of JOGGERS to my wardrobe and then I try them on and they are hideous. This is the first pair I've ever tried on that didn't make me look like a potato!! Not only that, but the material is so soft. The whole situation is made better by the addition of the CROPPED QUARTER ZIP. The outfit is so comfy it could be worn at home and stylish enough to be worn out. Add that trench coat above and it would be such a great errand running outfit!! (I'm in a size large on top and bottom.)
Love this outfit! THIS top is so flattering! I tried it in a large, but would probably size up so I felt a little more comfortable. The large fit fine, I just like a bit more room, personally. Also, THESE jeans are so cute and stylish for such a great price!! They're also ankle length...which is a dream for us short girls. On taller gals, these are more of a cropped look, as they're intended to be. As a petite woman, though, they fit right at the ankle where I want them to. (I'm in a large in the top and size 10 on bottom.)
One thing I add almost every year from Walmart is a sweater and THIS one is so cute!! It's soft and looks great worn open or closed. Also, I had to try THESE jeans. They are so similar to the style from Gap (Long and Leans) that my sister used to wear in the early 2000's. I had to send her a pic from the dressing room and she confirmed. (I'm in a large on top and a 12 on bottom.)
If you've followed me for any length of time over on INSTAGRAM, you'll know how obsessed I am with the Time and Tru crew neck sweatshirt. THIS is a new option this year in a cropped style and I love it! I love the LONGER one to go with jeans, but this cropped version is so much better for me with jeans. (I'm wearing a large in this.)
THIS dress is so cute and comfy! Literally feels like you're wearing your favorite flannel pajamas...but you look put together! It would be perfect with tights and boots, as the weather gets cooler. Add a denim jacket and you're in business! (I'm in a large.)
Okay...I have lots of favorites here, but if I could encourage you to get one piece that you will love, it's THIS dress!! It reminds me so much of the Somerset silhouette from Anthropologie, but for a fraction of the price. I didn't get it the day I tried on because they only had it in large and I need a medium, but I will be ordering it! Just a word to the wise...grab it while you can because stock is limited! Also...it comes in black...which I think you could wear for just about anything...for years to come...it's a classic look.
I hope you've found this post to be helpful. I know it's so hard to tell what will look good when you just see it online. Also, it's always good to know what the fabric or quality is like too. I was thoroughly impressed with every item I tried on here. If I hadn't been...I wouldn't have bothered sharing it with you!
